I had the great pleasure of winning 2 different under the bed restraint systems this Valentine’s season. The first was from PipeDreams. The first 4 images are of the entire PipeDreams under the bed restraint system. 4 cuffs included. The last 4 pictures are from Kinklab’s under the bed restraint system. Cuffs not included. The middle two pictures of of Kinklab’s basic Neoprene restraints that I won with the system. 

Because these systems arrived at the same time I got to do some great 1-1 comparisons on them. They both cost about the same. 40 USD. Pipedreams came from Uberkinky and Kinklabs came from Stockroom. 

For a beginner that isn’t sure about this at all and does not already own wrist and ankle restraints it is a bit cheaper to buy Pipedreams as it includes 4 cuffs. Unfortunately I do not think the set is worth 40 USD. I would be hard pressed to say it was worth 20. Look at the hardware on it. It is flimsy dollar store hardware. I would totally break the crap out of it in a single hard session. As you can see the entire system is made from the teathery stuff that tends to fray pretty easily. The middle piece can be adjusted to fit any size bed. The cuffs are flimsy with bad stitching and are made of neoprene which can cause cancer. Unless you find this one on sale really cheap I am going to suggest passing on this system.

Next let us look at kinklabs cuffs. They are softer and larger and the hardware is thick and sturdy. The clasp has full range of motion so it can move. This means it will be a lot harder to put your sub in an uncomfortable position where they need to move their hands or feet. As a sub I totally approve. The downfall is these cuffs are 10-20 a set and are also made of Neoprene. Pass on these and get a semi-decent set of cuffs if you are new. If you are an old hat, use your good cuffs. 

Finally we look at Kinklabs system. The hardware is again thick and sturdy. The clasps again have full range of motion. The first 3-4 feet of each teather is made of a leatherette type material. The stitching is really well done. The next foot is the teathery material. The middle piece can be adjusted to fit any size bed. I wish the hardware was a bit sturdier here but it is still a lot better than Pipedreams and will not be too hard to replace if it ever breaks. Judging by the material quality, the stitching, and the hardware, this set is meant to last. The only parts you will see above your bed will also be the leatherette so it will look nice and classy and go with your likely more expensive cuffs. 

I was really impressed with Kinklabs set. I wasn’t expecting the quality I got at all. Pipedreams was exactly what I was expecting considering the history of the things the company produces. If you have any questions on the systems, let me know. 

All these things and more were within a 5 foot radius of me without me leaving my room. As you can see we have covered gaming, knitting, chainmailling, BDSM, and sex toys. In a few cases these things have merged. Like the Lelo Ina rabbit vibrator that is covered in chainmaille. Not for sexual use anymore. Yes that is my personal dicebag. It is pink with a Hello Kitty head on it. I broke the thong not long ago and have been a lazy bum and haven’t gone out to buy a new one. The bondage gear is from the Sub-shop. I haven’t see my long distance fiance since I bought it so the tags are still on the flogger. The necklace on my psp? That is from Kumacrafts. She makes baller things, go look her up. That particular necklace is based on Sailor Moon’s final transformation brooch in the manga. I will give you 5 bonus points if you realized that the material under all of this is liberators microfiber. It isn’t a throe though. It is a king sized duvet cover of the material that they had on sale for a very limited run. All my shapes stick to my duvet and I can secure the duvet almost anywhere. I still need to buy a throe. 

So basically my gender has nothing to do with my hobbies and it shouldn’t. Don’t judge me saying that I am female and therefore don’t like sex, don’t game, can’t be a super nerd. I covered my dildo in chainmaille. I’m pretty sure that tops most people’s nerd meters right there.

So I will fully admit I freaking suck at keeping everything still whilst I attempt to bang in imprints into the metal. Second project ever with these tools and I must say it was great stress relief. I made myself a partial collar with holes on either side to be able to make it a full collar. Then I made Master a matching wrist doodad. Theoretically I can add in a jump ring on either side of both pieces to be able to link them via a leash. They are both made of hand beaten copper. 

I only hit myself with the hammer once. )*(

So while I was adding a small border to draw in the top of this dice bag I realized that it could be a really effective mitten style restraint for BDSM.  I could easily make these in pairs and reinforce certain areas to be able to handle being attached via clips to each other/leash/tethers/etc.

The main difference between a mitt and a bag would be that mitts would go in further to be able to get tight against the wrist so the sub could not escape and that there would be a gap in the mitt. This gap would be a straight line with reinforced edges that could be corset laced up so that the mitt would go over the hand and still fit perfectly to the wrist.

Depending on various factors (ring size/color, mitt size, and whether the buy would want a custom inlay or design on the mitts) I am thinking a plain pair like this in the larger than my average link size, would be around 100 USD which is just a smidgen more than two dice bags of this size due to the changes that would have to be made.

Let me know if anyone is interested in the concept or purchase of a set or what would need to be changed in order for you to be interested (such as the inclusion of a liner).

Wow… The original looks SO much better… O.O I thought it was a cool concept, which made it look nice to me, but comparing it with the original… It just can’t live up to it… 

There’s a huge quality gap between handmade leather goods from an artisan and things made at a company. I pretty much always try to buy local or from small businesses employing artisan crafters for most things but especially my leather needs. After buying a few things from chain stores/brands and having them just be terrible quality I decided to shut up, save up and shell out for quality leather that would last me forever with proper care. My favorite shop, the sub-shop, went out of business not long ago. And while I cried at the loss of a great store I bought 2 floggers and a pair of wrist restraints for 90% off, which made them affordable on my college student budget. ^_^
